Therapy Approaches I Use

Every client is unique, which is why I tailor treatment to your individual needs, goals, strengths, and life experiences. Rather than relying on a single approach, I integrate evidence-based therapies and trauma-informed interventions to provide personalized, comprehensive care.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help individuals process traumatic memories and reduce the emotional distress associated with past experiences. It is widely used in the treatment of PTSD and trauma-related symptoms.

Addiction-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR)

Addiction-Focused EMDR adapts traditional EMDR principles to address the relationship between trauma and substance use. This approach targets the traumatic experiences and emotional triggers that often contribute to addictive behaviors.

DeTUR (Desensitization of Triggers and Urge Reprocessing)

The DeTUR Protocol is an EMDR-based intervention developed to reduce cravings, process substance-related triggers, strengthen coping skills, and support long-term recovery from addiction.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Trauma-Focused CBT combines cognitive behavioral techniques with trauma-sensitive interventions to help individuals process traumatic experiences, develop healthy coping skills, and reduce symptoms of trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to emotional distress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT teaches practical skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness to improve emotional balance and relationships.

Internal Family Systems (IFS-Informed)

IFS-informed therapy explores the different "parts" of ourselves with curiosity and compassion, helping clients develop greater self-awareness, reduce internal conflict, and promote healing from trauma.

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

The Safe and Sound Protocol is a listening-based intervention designed to support nervous system regulation through the principles of polyvagal theory. It may help improve emotional regulation, reduce stress responses, and enhance feelings of safety and connection.

Attachment-Based Therapy

Attachment-focused work examines how early relationships influence current emotional patterns and relationships, helping clients build healthier, more secure connections.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed care recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and emphasizes safety, collaboration, empowerment, and trust throughout the therapeutic process.

Mindfulness-Based Interventions

Mindfulness practices help increase present-moment awareness, reduce stress, and improve emotional regulation and overall well-being.

Somatic and Nervous System Regulation

These interventions help clients understand how trauma affects the body and develop practical strategies to regulate the nervous system, improve resilience, and restore a sense of safety.

HeartMath® Techniques

HeartMath techniques teach practical breathing and biofeedback-informed strategies that can improve emotional regulation, stress management, resilience, and nervous system balance.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, client-centered approach that helps individuals strengthen their motivation for change by exploring personal values, goals, and ambivalence.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Principles

Drawing on graduate training in Applied Behavior Analysis, I incorporate behavioral principles when appropriate to support behavior change, habit formation, skill development, and goal achievement within an individualized treatment plan.

Strengths-Based Therapy

Strengths-based therapy focuses on identifying and building upon your existing abilities, resilience, and personal resources to promote lasting growth and healing.

Psychoeducation

Understanding the "why" behind your experiences is an important part of healing. I provide education about trauma, attachment, anxiety, depression, substance use, emotional regulation, and neuroscience to empower clients with knowledge and practical skills.

Commitment to Evidence-Based Practice

As a behavioral health researcher and Doctor of Social Work, I am committed to providing care informed by current scientific evidence and clinical best practices. My training in Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subjects Research reflects my dedication to ethical research, evidence-based practice, and the responsible integration of emerging behavioral health interventions into clinical care.
